The sense of wonder you see on the faces of children and adults alike is present every day at Wilmington, NC’s Fort Fisher Aquarium.

No matter how many times you go, it is always a new and awesome experience. That’s the nature of nature – always changing, always engaging. And nature of all kinds abounds in the aquarium. As you enter the gates, several permanent and temporary exhibits await. The touch tank is a delight to let your hands explore the starfish, urchins, and horseshoe crabs. The jungley area displays snakes, local fish, and Luna  – Wilmington’s own albino alligator. Her time here began in 2009, and since then she has grown 2 feet and 45 pounds. She is 1 of an estimated 50 in the entire world, making her a natural gem in the truest sense.

Temporary exhibits include the Dinosaurs and the Butterfly Bungalow. Animatronic dinosaurs, roar, spit, and hatch as you walk through the exhibit, free with aquarium admission. The Butterfly Bungalow is only $3 per person, and gives you entrance to an enclosed garden of hundreds of exotic butterflies.

The aquarium offers both free and special events that can be viewed on their website, and we highly, highly recommend you check out the tours and adventures available.
